Day 1 Blog (Saturday, November 12)

AUA Delegates Drs. Hans Arora and Richard Pelman, AUA Alternate Delegate Dr. Jason Jameson and AUA Resident/Fellow Section Delegate Dr. Ruchika Talwar joined hundreds of physicians at the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates (HoD) 2022 Interim Meeting to consider resolutions and reports covering clinical practice, payment, medical education, and public health topics. Top issues at the meeting include ongoing physician workforce shortages, healthcare disparities, telemedicine expansion, scope of practice, and medical licensing.

On Saturday morning, AUA delegates participated in a variety of specialty caucus pre-meetings, including those hosted by the Surgical Caucus (organized by the American College of Surgeons), the Cancer Caucus (organized by the American Society of Clinical Oncology) and the Specialty and Service Society Caucus. Meeting with like-minded physicians from a variety of specialties prior to the general business sessions is critical to building a broad consensus on key policies that impact urology.

Then, later in the afternoon, AUA delegates joined the full House of Delegates for the opening general session, which officially kicked-off the AMA HoD Interim Meeting. They heard updates from AMA President Jack Resnick, MD, AMA CEO James L. Madara, MD, and others.

On Sunday, AUA delegates will participate in six reference committee meetings covering more than 130 different reports and resolutions. As a reminder, the AMA HoD is the principal policy-making body of the AMA. It represents the views and interests of a diverse group of member physicians from more than 170 societies. These delegates meet twice a year to establish policy on health, medical, professional and governance matters.

Urologist Bill Reha, MD; AUA Delegates Jason Jameson, MD, Ruchika Talwar, MD, Hans Arora, MD, and Richard Pelman, MD; and AMA Board of Trustee/urologist Willie Underwood, MD, kickoff the 2022 American Medical Association House of Delegates Interim Meeting on November 12.
